Food Pantry

The Cherokee County Sharing Center was started in 1987 by 5 individuals from Murphy Presbyterian and St. William's churches. It was organized as an adjunct of the Cherokee County Ministerial Association, and soon other Murphy churches became active in the mission. Since 2003 the number of requests has increased exponentially from 1,864 requests to 4,885 in 2009. This is the equivalent of 170,000 meals provided to 12,955 individuals, including children and low-income seniors. Cherokee County Sharing Center is located on the ground floor of the sanctuary building. It is open to the public on Tuesday and Friday 1-3 p.m. and as needed for emergencies. We serve all of Cherokee County and part of Clay County. To receive help, a household or individual must meet USDA food assistance income guidelines. We do accept monetary and commodity donations, which are greatly appreciated. We also have a continuous need for volunteers to help prepare the food for distribution.

NOTE: We need help to package dry goods on Wednesday mornings for 2 to 3 hours when someone on the regular work crew has to be absent. Please contact Saundra Clark at 837-4636 if you can be a substitute!
