Big Brothers Big Sisters is in IMMEDIATE need of volunteers! We've had a big influx of requests by children at both Hiwassee Dam Elementary School and at Murphy Elementary School to be part of our program, just in the last week. The numbers at both school exceed our expectations for the year, which is just super, but it means we are in need of some folks who are willing to volunteer 1 hour per week to mentor an elementary school child. We provide training, do background checks and also offer ongoing support to encourage and help our volunteers. Currently, we need approximately 3 mentors at HDES (2 men and 1 woman). For mentoring at MES, we need both men and women mentors, perhaps 4 of each gender. Won't you consider volunteering for "time well spent" being a mentor to a girl in our area? If so, please contact Barbara Gabriel, Program Coordinator at 828-557-7995 or cherokee@bbbswnc.org OR Tom Spencer at tomattwinmtn@yahoo.com.

Cub Scouts

September 7, 2011

We have an active Cub Scout program for boys between 1st and 4th grade.  We have 4 dens that meet every Thursday evening from 6 to 7 pm in the Fellowship Hall.  The dens break out for their separate meetings, and every 3rd Thursday of the month is a Pack meeting.

Tiger Cubs are 7-year-olds, Wolf Cubs are 8-year-olds, Bear Cubs are 9-year-olds, and Webelos are 10- and 11-year-olds.  If you need an information packet or application, please call Cubmaster Steve Smith (837-1043) or Scout Representative Dave Hotchkiss (644-0945).

Register your son now and join in on the fun! Remember...ANY TIME IS THE BEST TIME TO JOIN SCOUTING!
